Proposition D — Changes to Ballot Measure Process
Raises the signature requirement for local initiatives from 2% to 8% of registered voters and raises the requirement for calling special elections. Removes the Mayor’s and a minority of supervisors’ independent power to place measures on the ballot.
A yes vote means
Approve the higher signature requirements and placement changes, and allow proponents to withdraw signature initiatives until 102 days before an election. A majority of the Board could still place measures on the ballot.
A no vote means
Keep current signature requirements and the existing ways for the Mayor and supervisors to place measures on the ballot.
Requires a simple majority of votes cast on the measure to pass.
